Liska as a Hub of Jewish Tradition

From the 19th century, Liska has served as a focal point of Jewish community and tradition. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to pay homage to Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also revered as Hershele Lisker. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. By the late 1800s, Liska had a largely Jewish population, with around 3,000 residents contributing to its vibrant life. The influence of Liska’s heritage extends to nearby towns like Kerestir, shaping Jewish life across Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.
